Often we get asked, how do I get to $1k, $5k, or $10k a month? We embarked on a data project which aimed to give a better answer than “It depends”.

Analyzing this many sites also gave us other benefits such as:

Google is constantly refining it’s algorithm. At Make Lemonade we’re committed to staying at the forefront of search and website investing, leading the industry through our own experimental testing. 

Expertise, Authority and Trust (EAT) is increasingly important when it comes to ranking in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). We continue to make developments and innovations in this space to show Google that our sites are ‘real businesses’ that add value to their vistiors. Google wants to serve its customers with the best results and we make sure that the websites we work on are credible and in that conversation.

Aged domain fails to take off

Aged domains have proven again and again that they are a tremendous way to buy authority and rank a new website fast, saving time and money. We have tons of case studies that show just that.

However, occasionally an aged domain just doesn’t do what we expect it to and ‘flatlines’ meaning we just can’t seem to drive any traffic. If that’s the case, as part of our growth plan we will source and replace the existing domain for a new one and migrate the content to that domain, at no extra cost.

Single point of failure

With just one website, one income stream, or one source of traffic your site is at risk from a single point of failure. 

In the mid-long term you want to consider investing in more than one website by building a portfolio of sites. That way, if one of your sites loses traffic, possibly due to a Google update, you have others to fall back on. Note that we don’t generally recommend starting a second site until you’re successful with the first (unless you have a healthy budget!). Ranking content sites takes time and effort and therefore you should invest all your resources into making the first site successful first. 

Creating an email list, membership or starting social channels is a great way to diversify your traffic, reducing your reliance on just one source, Google. Once you have traffic to your site, it’s time to start building an audience and leveraging other means of communication to drive people to your site.
